Industrial Biotechnology 1

This program offers a sequence of courses that provides coherent and rigorous content aligned with challenging academic standards and relevant technical knowledge and skills needed to prepare for further education and careers in the manufacturing career cluster; provides technical skill proficiency, and includes competency-based applied learning that contributes to the academic knowledge, higher-order reasoning and problemsolving skills, work attitudes, general employability skills, technical skills, and occupation-specific skills, and knowledge of all aspects of the manufacturing career cluster. Industrial Biotechnology is a program offering students science credit through an applied science education, to prepare them for entry level positions in the cutting edge industry of Biotechnology. While meeting the state standards for science, the coursework will focus on developing science and bio-technical skills that are current and in demand for this rapidly growing occupation. Upon completion of the integrated program, students will be able to explain and perform bio-technical skills used by Industrial, Medical, Agricultural, and Research facilities that develop and produce marketable products and processes.

Textbooks

The primary textbook for this course is the one shown above.  "Biotechnology Science for the millennium by Ellyn Daugherty".  The other textbooks are Biotechnology by Kirk Brown, published by Biorad.  Also to cover the basic biology curriculum also we use Florida Biology by McGraw-Hill Publishers.  You can check out any one of these textbooks at any time.  

LMS (Learning Management System)

Canvas is our Learning Management System.  You must submit all the assignments, activities, project reports, lab reports, test and quizzes must through Canvas.  You are required to submit the assignments by the deadline to receive the full credit.

EOC (End of Course Exam)

This is a fast-paced integrated program.  This means the Florida Biology curriculum (NGSSS) also will be taught along with the Biotech 1 Standards.  You will be given an opportunity to take the Florida Bio EOC at the end of the academic year.  If you make a level 3 or above, you receive the Biology credit, which is a graduation requirement.  In other words, this course will give you an opportunity to receive dual credit.
